Self-Talk is something most of us engage in, it is the process of internally verbalising actions and thoughts.
Here OzSwoosh head coach Craig Rowe explains what internal dialogue is and discusses both concepts of negative self-talk and positive self-talk which form a big part of positive sport psychology.
He also talks about negative thoughts ties to cortisol which causes stress and adrenaline which causes fear and anxiety.
Coach Rowe shares how changing our internal dialogue from negative connotations to positive affirmations of realistic goals and reinforcements we can improve rational thinking.
So verbalising positive thoughts works because it minimises the activation of the fight and flight system, by calming and reinforcing key expectations to avoid disappointment.
Coach Craig Rowe shares some words which may help athletes improve their shooting and also offers 1 bonus tip at the end of the video.
