Here we explore the various developmental stages of athletes and the approaches a coach may apply when teaching various age groupings in basketball.
While approaches shared are based on age groups, we remind coaches that when it comes to the developmental stages in athletes, age should only be a guide.
As well as explaining the developmental stages we briefly outline the 5 key attributes we need to grow as human beings across the course of one’s life.
Understanding these attributes helps us better recognise the important role coaches play not only in athletic development, but in human development as well.
Coach Craig Rowe shares his experience of working with players from aged 4 to 25 and beyond and the methods he applies to different groups.
Coach Craig Rowe is the lead coach at OzSwoosh Academy in Australia and has over 30 years coaching experience including over 2 decades educating beginner basketball coaches and H&PE teachers.
